1. Foreign Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso of the Republic of the Congo will visit the Republic of Korea from November 6 to 9.
° During the first visit to the ROK by a Foreign Minister of the Republic of the Congo since 2006, Minister Gakosso will meet with Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se; visit the inter-Korean demilitarized zone, the Korea International Cooperation Agency, businesses and the National Museum of Korea; attend a business meeting to be hosted by the Korea-Africa Center; and meet with the African Diplomatic Corps in the ROK.
2. On November 8, Minister Yun will meet and exchange views with Minister Gakosso on matters of mutual concern, including ways to increase cooperation on economy, trade, development, education and culture; ways to work together on the international stage; and the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in Africa.
° With regard to the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the two top diplomats will discuss ways to work with the international community in pressuring North Korea in response to its fifth nuclear test.
° On the heels of their meeting, the two Ministers will sign a memorandum of understanding on consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two country in a bid to continue high-level exchanges and policy consultations.
3. The upcoming visit of Foreign Minister Gakosso to the ROK is expected to serve as an opportunity for extensive discussions on ways to step up bilateral exchanges and cooperation as well as coordination on North Korean issues.
